Boxing betting – Infos about odds and wagers

Boxing used to be one of the most popular sports in the world, and while interest has waned recently, boxing betting still has its many followers. The question, though, is how does betting on boxing work? There are plenty of sites on which you can bet on boxing in Canada, but you first need to know the ins and outs, the lines and odds, before you can move forward. So, let’s take a closer look at all the options to having boxing betting explained and if you are looking for a sportsbook, have a look at my selection.

Moneyline betting options

Like many other sports, you can bet on what’s known as the moneyline – choosing the outright winner of the game, or in this case, the match. With boxing, there are three different options when it comes to moneyline betting on the outcome. You can bet on either fighter to win the match, or you can bet on the match to end in a draw. The fun part about boxing is that you can also place a moneyline wager on the three different methods by which a boxer can win a fight – either by decision, KO/TKO (knockout/technical knockout) or disqualification.

A KO happens when one fighter knocks another to the mat, and that fighter doesn’t get up after a 10-count from the referee. A TKO happens when one fighter is knocked to the mat three times in one round. A decision occurs when the fight lasts the full number of rounds, and the judges decide who wins. A disqualification happens if either fighter breaks the rules of the fight.

Interesting to know
There are some fighters that don´t seem to quit. Manny Pacquiao is one of them, he is 40 years old and maybe there will be a rematch between him and Floyd Mayweather.

Outright wagers

Outright betting is choosing the fighter who will win the fight, regardless of the method by which he or she wins it. In this case, you will be placing a bet on either fighter (or the draw). In boxing, there will be a favorite and an underdog going into a fight, and the odds will be reflected by that.

For example, Anthony Joshua may be the favorite and have odds of -300 to win the fight. This means you’d have to bet $300 to win $100. Andy Ruiz Jr. may be the underdog and have odds of $150. In this case, if you wagered $100, you’d win $150. A draw, meanwhile, will have the longest odds as it is the outcome least likely to happen. There may be odds of +3000 on a draw, meaning if you bet $100, you’d win $3,000.

Over/Under wagers

Many online sportsbooks will offer over / under betting on boxing. The most common version of this is the length of the fight in terms of the number of rounds. For example, in a 12-round fight, the over / under may be 8.5. This means you’d be wagering on whether you think the fight will last shorter or longer than 8.5 rounds. Some sites will offer live betting options that will update as the fight is taking place, which may change the over / under from 8.5 to 9.5, for example, depending on how the fight is taking shape.

The fight length and odds

Some sites will also offer you specific prop bets where you can wager on the exact number of rounds that will take place in a particular fight. If we take a 12-round fight as an example, these sportsbooks will offer a wager on whether the fight will last one round, two rounds, three rounds, etc., all the way up to 12 rounds. Each of these wagering options will have their own specific odds and payouts, depending on what the sportsbook feels are the most likely outcomes. While these bets may have some big payouts, it is also much harder to win these wagers than a typical over / under bet. To give you a better example, just have a look at this table.

What you should know about parlays

A pair of boxing glovesParlay betting in boxing works similarly to how parlay betting works in other sports. Instead of picking the winner of just one fight, you instead will make your best selections from multiple fights. If, for example, you have a good feeling about the outcome of three fights, then you could place a parlay bet on who you think will win each of the fights. In this instance, if all three of your selections are correct, then you will be paid out extra odds and a larger payout than if you bet on each of those fights separately. For example, if three separate correct wagers paid you $300, a parlay bet on those same three winners may pay you $450.

The one thing about parlay betting is that all of your selections need to be correct in order for the bet to win. If even one of your selections is incorrect, then your entire wager will lose. For example, if you place a parlay bet that includes 10 fights, and you get only one of them wrong, your entire wager will still lose. This is why the odds and payouts of parlay bets are much larger – because it’s harder to win.

Tips and strategies

With boxing, a lot of what determines who will win a fight is based around the health of a boxer, how well he/she has been performing lately, what else is going on in their life, the circumstances surrounding the fight and how well they are training. Today, it’s easier to get clued in on all of that information with the internet and social media. You may be able to gage how well a boxer is performing in training and sparring, for instance. You may know that one boxer is having trouble making weight or is dealing with an injury.

When you are trying to make a decision on a boxing bet, you should try to pick who the hungrier boxer is, how the boxers performed in recent bouts, what each boxer’s style is and whether one or another plays well (or doesn’t) to the other, and finally, whether the fight will be taking place close to one boxer’s hometown.

These wagers can be rewarding

Boxing isn’t as popular as it once was, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun to watch and bet on. Trust me, I do it all the time. The nice part about today is that online sportsbooks offer a wide variety of boxing betting options on boxing matches, and you can do plenty of research beforehand on the internet. Once you understand how boxing betting is conducted and what’s available, you can make your right selections. Besides boxing, there are many great betting options and some of them are presented on the first page of this domain.
