Pre-tournament wagering options
One of the ways to bet on the IIHF Women’s World Championship is to place wagers before the tournament begins. The most common forms of these bets is to either choose the winner of the tournament or the finalists. For example, you may place a wager on Canada to win the entire championship, or for Canada to make it to the final game.
In these instances, online sportsbooks will set odds for every team that is competing in the event. The favorites, such as Canada and the United States, will have shorter odds and won’t pay as much. The longer shots will have better odds and will pay more, but they don’t have as good a chance to win the event — at least according to the sportsbooks.
Other wagering options
The other common betting options for the IIHF Women’s World Championship are to bet on the outcomes of individual games. These will work just like betting on hockey games in the NHL, for example. There are three main ways that you can bet on individual games. The first is the moneyline, where all you have to do is select the winner of the game. The sportsbooks will set odds for each team, with the favorite having minus odds and the underdog most likely having plus odds.
The second option is to bet on the handicapped puck line. The favorite will be favored by most like 1.5 goals in most games, although it could be more. For example, Canada may be -1.5 against Sweden in a game. This means that Canada would need to win by at least 2 goals for a bet on them to be successful, while Sweden needs to only lose by 1 goal (or win the game) for a bet on them to be successful.
The third option is to be on the over under, which is based around the total number of combined goals scored by both teams. Again, the sportsbooks will set an over under line for each game. If the line is 6.5, for instance, a bet on the under would win only if 6 or fewer goals were scored in the game. A bet on the over would win only if 7 or more goals were scored. Alternate betting options on the IIHF Women’s World Championship would be to bet on prop bets such as who will be named the player of the tournament, which player will lead the tournament in goals, and other fun bets which can be placed at the following site.

The next IIHF Women’s World Championship will be held from March 31 to April 10, 2020, in Halifax and Truro, Canada. There will be 10 countries competing in the event, split among a Group A and Group B. Group A is the top five ranked teams in the world, while Group B is the next five. Round robin matches begin on March 31. All five teams from Group A will automatically move onto the Quarterfinals round. They will simply be ranked according to how they perform in the round robin portion. Only the top three teams in Group B will advance to the Quarterfinals. The other two will be relegated to the 2021 Division I.
Knockout rounds begin with the Quarterfinals on April 7, followed by the Semifinals on April 9 and the Final and Third Place Game on April 10. Canada and the United States are always the favorites to win the IIHF Women’s World Championship. In fact, one of these two countries has won the tournament every year since 1990. The United States has won the last five championships, dating back to 2013.
