Futures on the tournament

The first category of bets on the Women’s Curling Championship are what’s known as futures bets. These bets are made before the tournament even begins and try to predict events that will happen when the tournament ends.

Perhaps the most common form of this type of bet is a wager on which team will win the championship. For this, online sportsbooks will list odds for each team that is participating, with the favorites having shorter odds and the other teams having longer odds. Canada, for example, might be deemed the favorite and have odds of +150 to win the tournament. That means a $100 bet on them would net you $150 if it were successful.

Another option for a futures bet would be picking a team to reach the finals of the Women’s Curling Championship. This wager would work the same way as picking the cup winner, except your team would only have to make it to the final game — not win the entire tournament. Since this is slightly easier to predict, online sportsbooks will reduce the odds for each of the teams participating in the tournament.

Wagering on individual matches

The second general category of bets on the Women’s Curling Championship revolve around individual matches between two teams. There are a lot of different options in this category, though most of them are very similar to match betting in other sports such as hockey or football.

Most online sportsbooks will offer moneyline betting on all matches, allowing you to simply pick the outright winner of an individual match in the tournament. The sportsbooks will select the favorite and underdog of that match and then set the odds accordingly. For example, in a match between Sweden and Canada, Canada may be the favorite with odds of -210 with Sweden the underdog with odds of +230. This means you’d have to bet $210 on Canada to win $100, while a $100 bet on Sweden that was successful would net you $230.

Another way to bet on individual matches in the 2020 Women’s Curling Championship is handicap betting. Just like in other sports, online sportsbooks will set a handicap line for most matches in the tournament, with the favorite “giving” points and the underdog “receiving” points. For example, Canada may be favored by 2.5 points over Sweden. This means that in order for a wager on Canada to be successful, they’d have to win the match by 3 points or more. Conversely, a wager on Sweden would be successful if they lost by 2 or fewer points.

The third most common type of match wager is total points scored. This wager doesn’t have anything to do with which team wins a particular match, but rather how many total points the two teams in a match score combined. For example, if Canada beat Sweden 12-7, the total points scored in that match would be 19.

Online sportsbooks will set an over/under line for each match, which is what you’ll be betting against. If the over/under line for the above hypothetical match was 17.5, for example, the over would win and the under would lose, since there were 19 total points scored. Do you want to enjoy the action? The 2020 event will be held at the CN Centre

The 2020 version of the Women’s Curling Championship is set to be held in Prince George, Canada, at the CN Centre. It will be held from March 14 through March 22. There are teams from 13 countries competing this year, including Canada, China Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

Either Switzerland (the defending champions) or Canada has won this tournament each year for the last six years. Switzerland has seven total Women’s Curling Championship titles, including in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. Canada has by far the most total titles with 17. Their last ones came in 2017 and 2018.

The last country to win other than these two was Scotland, which won its second-ever Women’s Curling Championship title back in 2013. From 2009 through 2011, there was some parity at the tournament with three different countries winning in those three years — China, Germany and Sweden.

This year, Canada and Switzerland are sure to be the favorites to take home the Women’s Curling Championship title again, though Sweden — which has finished in second place each of the last two years, plus four out of the last eight — may be a solid challenger as well.

Hit the ice and throw some betting muscle around
