Pre-event wagering options
In figure skating, some of the most common and popular betting options are choosing the winner and/or top three finishers in each of the various events that are held. The same can be said for the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships. To place these wagers, you will select the competitor or pair that you think will win the gold medal in the competition. For example, if you believe that the United States’ Nathan Chen will repeat as the Gold Medal winner for the third straight year in men’s singles, then you can place a bet on him.
Each skater or team will have odds set for them prior to the competition starting. The online sportsbooks will set these odds based on who are considered the favorites and who are considered the longshots. The favorites will have shorter odds and won’t pay as much, while the longshots will have longer odds and will pay more. Another option for pre-event betting is to select whether an individual or team will medal in the competition. This would mean selecting an individual or team to win either the Bronze, Silver or Gold medal. It doesn’t matter exactly where they finish, as long as they finish in one of the top three spots.
Alternate wagering options for figure skating
Since there are no head-to-head matchups in the World Figure Skating Championships, there won’t be any traditional wagers available where you can pick one skater/team over another. However, there will be plenty of alternate-type bets that you can make.
These prop bets will be set by each individual sportsbook, so what is available to you will depend on where you are betting. One such example would be matchup betting. This will pit one skater/team against another. For example, in the pairs competition, the online sportsbook may set a handicap line for the U.S. team against the Canadian team. Whichever team finishes higher in the standings for the competition will win the wager — even though the two pairs didn’t actually compete directly against each other.
Another prop betting option will be on things such as which skater will finish with the highest individual score, or whether a particular skater or pair will score above or below a specific score. If you are interested in several betting options, check this site out.
