General betting options

Handball is a team sport played by two teams of seven players — six players in the outfield and one as the goalie. Betting for the sport resembles closely that of other major sports such as hockey, basketball and football.

There are three main betting options. First, you can bet on who will win a particular match outright over the other. This is commonly known as moneyline betting in football or hockey. The second option is handicap betting, where the sportsbooks will set a line on the match. One team will be favored and have odds of, say, -1.5 on the game. For a handicap wager on the favorite to win, then, that team will have to win the match by 2 or more goals.

The third option is totals betting, where you are wagering on how many total goals will be scored in a match. If the total is set by the sportsbooks at 10, then there would have to be fewer than 10 goals scored for an under wager to win, and more than 10 goals scored for an over wager to win. In addition to these most common wagers, there are often odds available on which team will score more goals in a half, which team will win the entire competition as well as live betting options with odds that update as the match progresses.

Simple tournament mode

There are 24 teams competing in the Women’s World Handball Championship spread out in four groups of six during what is known as the group stage. In this stage, each team will play the other teams in their group. The top three teams from each group will advance to the main round — leaving only 12 teams remaining.

These 12 teams are split into two groups, and each team will again face the other teams in their group. The top two teams from each of these groups will advance to the semifinals of the tournament, with the winners of the semifinals advancing to the finals. The competition is set to take place from November 30 to December 15, 2019.

Norway is one of the favorites

Norway is often considered one of the best women’s handball teams ever, and as such, they are hands down the favorites entering the tournament. One of the most popular bets currently is placing an outright wager on Norway to win the entire tournament. Right now, the odds on Norway to do so are +185, meaning if you bet $100 on them and Norway wins the tournament, you would win $185.

France and Russia are tied for the second-best odds to win the tournament at +275. Those three teams are head and shoulders above the rest of the competition, at least in terms of their odds to win the tournament. The Netherlands (+1200) and Romania (+1800) are the only other countries with odds shorter than +2000.

Betting during the group stage

Betting isn’t only popular before the 2019 World Women’s Handball Championship begins, though. It stays hot throughout the tournament, especially during the group stage and the knockout rounds. One interesting game is France vs. South Korea. Check out the odds below.

Different wagering options are available throughout the tournament. As mentioned before, each match will offer odds on which team will win the match outright. There will also be a handicap line offered as well as a total points wager offered on these matches. In addition, there will be wagers offered on other types of bets throughout the tournament. Examples of these wagers are which teams will win each group and which teams will advance to the next stage of the competition.

Get in on the betting action

The 2019 World Women’s Handball Championship is right around the corner, and the teams are gearing up for what is sure to be an intense competition. While the matches themselves are sure to be exciting, so, too, is the betting action on the tournament overall as well as each of the matches that takes place. Understanding what betting options are available to you at the handball championship is important before you make a decision as to how you want to bet on the competition.
