How the event is played

A golf club and ballThe CP Women’s Open was originally held as a three-round tournament consisting of 54 total holes. In 1978, the tournament expanded to four rounds for a total of 72 holes. The tournament is held over four days every year, with every entrant playing the first two days of the tournament. After the first two rounds, a cut is established, where only so many golfers move on to the final two rounds for a shot at the tournament title. At one point, the CP Women’s Open was even the third richest tournament on the LPGA Tour, behind the Evian Masters held in France and the U.S. Women’s Open. The total prize fund was reduced in both 2010 and 2012.

Interesting to know
In the recent past women from South Korea has shown that they are very good at the Open. In 2014, 2017 & 2019 the title has been won by a player from South Korea.

Wager on players finishing near the top of the leaderboard

In each of the last four years, there has been a first-time winner of the CP Women’s Open. Since 2001, in fact, there has only been a repeat winner of this tournament four times. This can make it very challenging for sports bettors to pick an outright winner of the tournament.

An alternate to picking an outright winner is to bet on golfers to finish in the top 10 of the final leaderboard. Just like picking the outright winner, online sportsbooks will set odds for each golfer before the tournament begins to finish in the top 10. You can then pick among the list of golfers for one or more players who you think will accomplish this feat.

The betting odds for selecting a golfer to finish in the top 10 are obviously lower than those for winning the tournament outright, as it is an easier to do so. That being said, it is also not as challenging to pick a golfer to finish in the top 10 as it is to pick the single outright winner.

The top players on the LPGA Tour

The Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings are compiled throughout the golf season every year based on how golfers perform at tournaments throughout the year. The current top 10, from 1 to 10, are Jin Young Ko, Sung Hyun Park, Nelly Korda, Danielle Kang, Nasa Hataoka, Sei Young Kim, Jeong Eun Lee, Brooke M. Henderson, Minjee Lee and Lexi Thompson. Ko is the defending champion of the CP Women’s Open, as she won the 2019 tournament. Henderson won in 2018, and Park won in 2017. No other player currently ranked in the top 10 rankings has won a CP Women’s Open title.

An alternate way to wager on the tournament

Picking the outright winner and a golfer to finish among the top 10 on the final leaderboard are two of the most common ways to wager on the CP Women’s Open. However, there are other ways that you can bet on the tournament as well. Today, online sportsbooks will set up prop bets that pit one golfer against another in a winning margin bet format. This is sort of like handicap betting in other sports where players/teams face off against each other in a match. Since golf is an individual sport, though, the online sportsbooks have to create hypothetical matchups.

The way they do that is take two golfers and set a handicap line between them. For example, they may set a winning margin line of Henderson -2.5 against Thompson. This would mean that for a wager on Henderson to be successful, she would have to finish with a final tournament score that is at least 3 strokes better than Thompson. Conversely, for a wager on Thompson to be successful, she would have to finish the tournament 2 or fewer strokes behind Henderson on the final leaderboard.

How to bet successful – Some tips

Like any other golf tournament, it is very important to research which golfers are performing well recently. This is often a great indication of how a golfer may perform at a specific upcoming tournament. Since golf is such an individual and therefore mental game, golfers who are doing well tend to continue to perform well, and vice versa.

Another tip for betting on the CP Women’s Open would be to research golfers who have performed well at this tournament in the past, and also those who have performed well at other very large, pressure-packed tournaments. Sometimes, the pressure of big tournaments can be too much, so going with a golfer who has proven to handle that pressure well in the past is a good idea. As with any wager on any sport, it’s a good idea to pay attention to any injuries or ailments golfers may be dealing with, and also what the weather forecast for the days of the tournament is going to be.

The event offers plenty opportunities for a lot of fun

The CP Women’s Open is not only one of the biggest golf events in Canada every year, but it’s one of the most prestigious annual tournaments on the LPGA Tour circuit. Golfers are always vying hard for the title. The golf betting action is also heavy on the CP Women’s Open. By doing your research on golfers, the course and the weather forecast, you could find yourself in a great position to cash in on some great bets on the CP Women’s Open this year.
