The PGA Tour holds tournaments
Content
Most of the events on the PGA Tour are four-day tournaments that are held from Thursday through Sunday. The first two days are considered the preliminary rounds, while the last two days are the finals. The golfers who compete in these tournaments are all competing individually. The golfer with the lowest cumulative score for all four days of play will be considered the winner. After the first two days, a certain number of golfers will make what’s called “the cut” and move to the final two days, while the rest will go home.

If you look at the winners, you will notice that the trophy almost exclusively goes to an american player and very often it was Tiger Woods who lifted the trophy. By the way, he will be there in 2021 as well. |
Don’t like a winner? Pick a top 20 finisher instead
One of the most common forms of betting on the PGA Tour is choosing a winner of the tournament before it begins. However, this is not an easy task to do. There may be upwards of 100 golfers to choose from, and picking the one golfer among this crowd who will win is difficult.
If you have a good feeling that a particular golfer will do well in a tournament, but aren’t sure if he or she will win, an option is to place a bet on him or her finishing in the top 20 in the tournament standings. The odds for this will most likely be lower than they would be for winning the tournament, resulting in a lower payout for you, but your chances for winning your bet go up — as it’s easier to win.

Attractive offer If you want to benefit from high odds and many promotions, this bookmaker site is for you. |

Europe has some of the world’s top players
Golf is truly a worldwide game, and that can be seen clear as day in the men’s golf rankings leaderboard. Some of Europe’s top golfers are Scotland’s Rory McIlroy, Spain’s Jon Rahm, England’s Justin Rose and Tomy Fleetwood, Australia’s Adam Scott, Italy’s Francesco Molinari, England’s Paul Casey, Ireland’s Shane Lowry and South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen. Those nine golfers are all currently ranked in the top 20 list for golfers in the world. However, as mentioned before, in recent history no player from Europe has won the prestigious tournament and with the return of Tiger Woods, one can has it`s doubts if that will change this year.
The best way to bet on the event
One of the top tips for betting on the PGA Tour is to research how golfers have done in recent events. This is often a great indication of whether they are on a hot streak or whether they are struggling. Golf is a very mental sport, especially because it’s individual. Golfers can only rely on themselves – not on other teammates to help them. Because of this, golfers who are performing well recently often continue to do so and this can mean a lot for the outright odds of 2021.
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Brooks Koepka | +800 |
Dustin Johnson | +900 |
Rory McIlroy | +1000 |
Justin Thomas | +1600 |
Tiger Woods | +1600 |
Jon Rahm | +2000 |
Jordan Spieth | +2000 |
Another tip is to research a golfer’s strengths and weaknesses and match them up to the course he’s about to play. Some courses will be better designed for big hitters, while others will cater to those who play a finesse game.
Mind the playoffs
A few years ago, the PGA Tour installed a form of playoffs, known as the FedExCup Playoffs. Throughout the normal PGA Tour season, players accumulate points based on where they finish in the standings in each of the tournaments that are held. The top 125 players in terms of points after the Wyndham Championship qualify for the playoffs.
There are three rounds of the playoffs, each held at a different tournament. The top 70 golfers after the first tournament advance to the second tournament, and only the top 30 from that advance to the TOUR Championship. The winner of that event is crowned the FedExCup champion.
Betting on the PGA Tour playoffs is similar to other sports. Online sportsbooks set odds for who will win the playoffs before the three tournaments even begin. You can also wager throughout the playoffs as they progress, with the sportsbooks updating the odds as they go.
Underdogs can pay off
Golf betting is exciting because some truly unknown players can win tournaments out of nowhere. This results in some huge payouts for bettors who decided to wager on them to win. Some of the biggest underdog victories in modern PGA Tour history were Trevor Immelman winning the 2008 Masters, Darren Clarke winning the 2011 Open, Ben Curtis winning the 2003 Open, Todd Hamilton winning the 2004 Open, and Paul Lawrie winning the 1999 Open.
How many strokes better will one golfer be than another?
An alternative type of PGA Tour bet today is what’s called a winning margin bet. Online sportsbooks will set lines on golfers, matching two golfers up against each other. They will then offer odds for a variety of margins. For example, you could wager on Justin Rose scoring 5 strokes better than Paul Casey – or 4 strokes, 2 strokes or 1 stroke, for example. These type of bets are difficult to pick correctly, as you have to land exactly on the margin of victory to be correct. Rose could do better than Casey, for instance, but unless he does exactly better than you predicted, your wager would lose.
The summary
Sports bettors will love the PGA Tour, at least that is something I observed in the past. There are non-stop events throughout the year, giving bettors the opportunity to continually place action on some of the game’s biggest names at some of the world’s top sporting events. Golf is a little different than other sports when it comes to betting, since it is such an individual sport. But after you understand how the PGA Tour works and how to bet on golf in general, you will not only have fun doing so, but you could be in for a big payday.
