The CFL season is almost here, which means that the teams that were at the bottom of the league last year finally have a chance at redemption in 2019. Among those teams that were at the bottom of the league, there are a couple of squads that look poised to improve as they head into the upcoming campaign. Whether it is through the acquisition of new players or the removal of some team chemistry issues, these teams look like they are ready to make the leap to respectability, which means that bettors should keep their eyes open for these teams.
Team chemistry might be more important in football than it is in any other sport. This is because every single component of a football team needs to be on the same page for the team to succeed, whereas individuals can still bring teams success in sports like baseball and basketball. And in that regard, there wasn’t a team that was a bigger disaster from a chemistry perspective than the Alouettes.
Montreal brought in troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel to help aid their struggling offense. Needless to say, that tactic did not work at all, as Manziel was ineffective at best and outright bad at his worst when he was in charge of the Montreal offense. Fortunately for the Alouettes, Manziel is no longer in the CFL after he violated the terms of his contract and was sent away from the league. That should allow the team to get back to focusing on building a cohesive unit rather than hoping that Manziel’s star power could bring the team back to where they wanted to go.
Instead of home improvement, the Argos will be looking to do some road improvement in the 2019 CFL season, and they should be able to do just that when they take to the field this year. That is because there is absolutely nowhere to go but up for the team that finished at the very bottom of the league’s standings last year. Toronto went 0-9 on the road last season, which is almost impossible statistically.
Among those road losses were three games that were decided by a field goal or less. In tight games like that, losing all three games is a product of bad luck more than it is a product of a team actually being inferior in all three cases. Expect the Argos to come out and have slightly better luck in 2019, which should help them at least avoid going winless on the road in the upcoming season.
Things are looking up for these two teams, but there have been plenty of teams that have looked good on paper going into a season only to fail to live up to their increased expectations. Bettors should be willing to adjust their expectations for these teams as the season wears on, which will give themselves the best chance to win money on their games from week one through the end of the year, for example at one of the following sites.
